MEET OUR EXECUTIVE CHEF

Redefining Kenyan Cuisine with French Elegance and Artistic Flair

The expertise and creativity of our Chef has consistently delighted guests.

His passion for culinary arts is reflected in every dish he creates, as he continuously explores new ways to combine flavours and textures to create unique and unforgettable gastronomic experiences.

At the heart of Five Senses is Chef Kimani Kiarie, or Chef Kim, the restaurant’s owner and head chef. Inspired by his mother’s cooking, Chef Kim’s culinary journey began with a deep appreciation for food and family. While still a boy, Chef Kim’s love for the kitchen was stirred by the rich flavours and aromas that emanated from his mother’s kitchen.

His mother’s wisdom and mentorship fuelled his dream of mastering the culinary arts, leading him to pursue formal training at Top Chefs Culinary Institute in Nairobi and later achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts at César Ritz Colleges in Switzerland.

Chef Kim’s expertise blossomed during his time in Paris, where he worked at Le Meurice, a prestigious Dorchester Collection establishment, and further honed his craft under the Alain Ducasse Education program. His practical experience at the Two-Michelin-starred Plaza Athénée restaurant and his time at IDAM in Doha shaped his sophisticated approach to blending French culinary techniques with global and Kenyan influences.

Returning to Kenya, Chef Kim brought his international experience home, launching Five Senses to celebrate local ingredients through French finesse. Signature dishes like Banana Textures, Chemsha, Down the Rabbit Hole and Matumbo Pâté are deeply personal, drawing from childhood memories and a lifelong passion for culinary arts.

Five Senses is more than a restaurant—it is Chef Kim’s playground for culinary innovation and storytelling. It’s a space where exceptional service, creativity and Kenyan roots converge, offering a sensory journey that exceeds expectations.
